Celebrating Menarche

This module includes research, information and ideas for parents, health professionals, educators and carers about the health and wellbeing benefits of a positive and informed introduction to menstruation for girls.
In this seminar Jane Bennett draws on many years experience running workshops with 10-12 year old girls, and their mothers and fathers, as girls traverse the magical and vulnerable threshold of puberty.
You will learn about relevant research and hear a multitude of useful ideas about how to offer girls a positive experience of menarche and menstruation. These include an understanding of our menstrual heritage and current cultural approach to menstruation, girls views about what would help at menarche, how to celebrate menarche, how to approach early menarche, the special role of mothers and fathers, the impact of menarcheal experience on future menstrual problems, body image, later sexual decision making and emotional and body literacy.

About the presenter
JANE BENNETT
PROFESSIONAL LIFE: Jane Bennett originally trained in Social Work (Monash University, 1981) and Clinical Hypnotherapy (Australian College of Clinical Hypnotherapy, 1987) and now works as a researcher, writer, counsellor and educator. As a member of the Natural Fertility Management Pty Ltd team since 1990 Jane organised and co-taught training seminars from 1993 onwards and provided ongoing support for health professionals wishing to use the NFM methods in their practice.
