Management of Elevated Cholesterol
Presented by
Angela Hywood N.D
The statistics are alarming: 1 in 5 adults have hyperlipidemia, defined as cholesterol levels above 200 mg/dL (5.5 mmol/L). Statin drugs are the number one drug prescribed worldwide and account for the highest profitability for pharmaceutical manufacturers. In short, hyperlipidemia is big business- a multibillion dollar industry!
Hypothyroidism is the second leading cause of elevated cholesterol, after a bad diet, yet is rarely investigated let alone treated. Other endocrine issues such as low DHEA, low testosterone and low estrogen are often involved. Genetics plays a critical role as does nutritional deficiencies.
Hypercholesterolaeia therefore cannot purely be defined as “statin deficiency” and as such, requires comprehensive investigation and a thorough treatment plan for patient care and improved quality of life. In fact, diet and lifestyle changes, without the use of drugs, have been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol in one year’s time by 40 percent on average.
In this module, you will learn the management of elevated cholesterol from an endocrine, nutritional, dietary and lifestyle perspective.
This module will provide practical clinical solutions with herbal, nutritional and lifestyle medicine that will deliver long term clinical results for your patients.
